DIY Valentines

Hello February! Winter can often be so drab and dreary, but there is one thing the DIY-loving person in me has always looked forward to ever since I was little, and thats Valentines Day. I was the kid who would spend hours decorating my little shoe box that would soon serve as a home to all of the Valentines I would receive at school the next day. I think I have always been fascinated with the fun of creating + sending cards and pretty baked goods for the holiday than the actual holiday itself.

Since this love-filled and candy-coated holiday is just around the corner, what's a better way to spread some Valentine love than a custom DIY photo card? Not only are these cards super cute to receive in the mail, but they are just as much fun to create. When you're done you can print them at your local photo store, pop them in an red envelope, and send them on their way to your loved ones. Trust me they will be flattered by the thought that went into this card. You can even create a custom set that tells a story. I thoroughly enjoyed creating this scene with Coco Bean!

Getting started:

- What do you want to share with your friends and loved ones, what is your subject? Pets, Children etc.
- Next is props, what to you says Valentine's Day? Candy, roses, hearts, desserts, flowers, etc.
- Try to keep your composition free of clutter, make sure you have good lighting, and start snapping away.
- Its okay to take lots of photos. Even if some don't turn out exactly how you want them, chances are one of them did!
- The captions, these can be created in photoshop (or similar software). If you want to get super crafty, create paper ones that can be attached to the card. Whatever you are comfortable with, its all about fun. Get creative!

Note - Coco Bean did not eat the red velvet prop, she had a healthy peanut butter-carrot pupcake waiting for her after the shoot. Both cakes were compliments of the fab Vanilla Bean Cupcake Bakery.

  2. So, so cute! Every year I end up sending Valentine's day cards instead of Christmas cards because my life is usually a little more caught up. My model is usually my daughter and the dogs too, natural—and super cute—props!
